One of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in the city, Forest Hill South is known for its canopy of trees and green space galore as well as some great boutique shopping and fantastic restaurants. Named after the summer home of John Wickson, Forest Hill was originally incorporated as a village in 1923 but changed to a neighbourhood in 1967. Although there are a handful of Toronto condos here, this Midtown neighbourhood features large houses on beautifully landscaped lots, with unique architecture.
There is an abundance of green space with a number of small parks and the Cedarvale Park ravine, which offers hours of trails to explore. There is a quaint village like feel around Spadina and Lonsdale, with boutiques, shops and cafes known appropriately as Forest Hill Village. Along with the restaurants found along St Clair and Bathurst, there are many good reasons to stay close to home. There are some prestigious schools in the area with Upper Canada College being one of the oldest, established in 1829. Located next to Yonge - St. Clair, which has a bit more of a city vibe and some of the best restaurants in the city and Casa Loma as well if you’re looking for a bit of culture.
With the 24 hour St. Clair Streetcar and easy access to the Spadina subway, getting downtown or over to the West End is easy. If you are driving, Allen Road is a few short blocks away and will connect you with the 401, which will take you anywhere you want to go.
Some good places to grab a bite are Comfort Zone, Edo Sushi or Sofra Forest Hill. Venture a little further for a meal at one of the neighbourhood's restaurants. If you love coffee, you're not too far from Starbucks located at 446 Spadina Rd. For those that love cooking, What A Bagel is a 5-minute walk.
Getting around the area is made simple. There is Spadina Rd at Burton Rd Bus Stop, a short distance away, with route Forest Hill nearby. If you're driving, you'll have decent access to the rest of the city by way of Allen Rd as well, which is within a few minutes drive using Lawrence Ave W ramps.
