Sitting just north of the 401 between Weston Road and Islington, Elms | Old Rexdale is named after its founding developer, Rex Heslop, and the former Elms Golf Course. It’s a suburban neighbourhood of single-family homes, most of which are bungalows or post-war era houses. With a bit of a country vibe, the area is divided east and west by Albion Road where you’ll find several Toronto condos overlooking the Humber River.
For nature enthusiasts and lovers of the Links, Elms | Old Rexdale is a haven of lush greenery and leisurely pursuits. The whole east side of the neighbourhood is green space from Pine Point Park in the south to Sumerlea Park in the north, and, right in the middle, you’ll find the Humber Valley Golf Course. There are small shopping plazas sprinkled along Albion Road, as well as a Walmart Supercentre and Fresh Value grocery store on Islington Avenue. Save for the occasional roar of a plane heading to Pearson International Airport, this Etobicoke neighbourhood is a quiet, peaceful place with a community pool and Public Library.
For drivers, getting around is a breeze with Weston Road and Highway 401 in the area, both connecting you to other parts of the city. Bus routes along Albion Road connect to Wilson Avenue and onwards to the Yonge-University subway line.
There are a lot of great restaurants. If you can't start your day without caffeine fear not, your nearby choices include Tim Hortons. For groceries there is M & B Tropical Groceries which is only a 4 minute walk.
Without a car, you can get around rather easily. It also has route Royal York, route Wilson, and more nearby. Access to Hwy 409 is within a 4-minute drive away, making it easy for those driving to get into and out of the city using on and off ramps on Islington Ave.
