Located immediately east of Toronto along the shore of Lake Ontario, Pickering is a mid-size city made up of both suburban neighbourhoods in the south and rural areas in the north. Its main employer is Ontario Power Generation, which is rapidly growing and expected to add thousands of jobs in the coming years. Attracting new real estate and businesses, Pickering is currently home to around 90,000 people.

Made up of suburban and rural communities, Pickering is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south, Scarborough to the west, and tracts of undeveloped land to the north. The city’s downtown core is a prime spot to look for Pickering condos for sale. As well as the southern part of the city, namely the waterfront community, which has been recently revitalized with the development of the Pickering Millennium Waterfront Trail that looks out on Frenchman’s Bay. It is home to Nautical Village, a tourist attraction that features a scenic boardwalk, boutique shops, restaurants and cafes, plus outdoor playgrounds for kids. The city’s main commercial venue is Pickering Town Centre, a two-storey shopping mall with more than 200 stores and services, including Famous Player’s cinema, Sport Check, and H&M.

With the Pickering Nuclear Generation System expected to create thousands of new jobs, the city is definitely on the up and up. More developments in local transit systems can be expected, such as the opening of the city’s landmark bridge that connects the downtown to the local GO Transit station.
