As new housing and condos in Vancouver expanded the city into an urban metropolis, its next door neighbour developed into the first direct suburb, known today as Burnaby. Nestled between Vancouver and New Westminster, Burnaby is the third largest city in British Columbia with some of the most prominent commercial centres, beautiful parks and rivers, and many modern condos for sale and for rent. It’s an attractive area for first-time buyers in the Vancouver condo market, as well as new families.
Many of the neighbourhoods in Burnaby, such as Metrotown, Edmonds, and Brentwood to name a few, have become culturally diverse urban centres over the last few years, greatly adding to the numbers of new condos in Burnaby. The economy is thriving with a wide range of technology firms, heavy industry companies, and film and television studios. The largest shopping mall in British Columbia is located in Burnaby, The Metropolis at Metrotown. It’s a four-storey shopping centre with over 450 stores and services and local transit connection via the SkyTrain. As for local green spaces, there are many throughout Burnaby, from the grounds of Simon Fraser University and Burnaby Mountain in the northeast to the central Burnaby Lake Regional Park and Central Park in Metrotown.
There are several main highways that run through Burnaby, but the Trans-Canada Highway 1 is the most notable, connecting Burnaby to North Vancouver District and the interior. On a local level, Burnaby enjoys public transit service along the SkyTrain line as well as neighbourhood bus routes for everyday travel.
