Fort York is where the birth of Toronto (formerly York) happened in 1793. Designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1923, The Fort is open year round for tours and in the summer months there are a number of activities open to the public. Toronto condo developers have, in recent years started paying attention to the former industrial lands in this downtown neighbourhood bringing with them exciting architecture and improvements like restaurants, cafes and stores that previously hadn’t been available. There are a number of new condos planned for completion over the next few years and they will no doubt bring more exciting things with them. One of the most iconic loft conversions in the city is located in Fort York, who can say they have never noticed the Tip Top sign from the Gardiner Expressway?
Fort York is situated right on Lake Ontario and with Coronation Park taking up most of the southern part of the neighbourhood, along with all the green space around The Fort itself, this is an outdoor lovers dream. For the history buffs there is The Queen’s York Rangers Museum as well as HMCS York naval reserve and there are no less than 2 Yacht Clubs at the foot of Stadium Rd. If you feel like jetting off to exotic locals, the Billy Bishop City Airport is at the bottom of Bathurst on Toronto Island you take the shorted ferry ride in the world to get there! Stroll along the paths in The Waterfront neighbourhood and relax in some of the many parks there or head a few blocks north to King West for some great nightlife.
Fort York condos are accessible by all means of transportation. The 511 Bathurst streetcar cuts a path all the way along to The Ex in Liberty Village and the Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Blvd both snake through connection you with the East and West End of the city and beyond.
