Located immediately east of Toronto along the shore of Lake Ontario, Pickering is a mid-size city made up of both suburban neighbourhoods in the south and rural areas in the north. Its main employer is Ontario Power Generation, which is rapidly growing and expected to add thousands of jobs in the coming years. Attracting new real estate and businesses, Pickering is currently home to around 90,000 people.
Made up of suburban and rural communities, Pickering is bordered by Lake Ontario to the south, Scarborough to the west, and tracts of undeveloped land to the north. As well, Durham Regional Transit system links Pickering with Ajax and surrounding communities, making local commutes and recreational travel so much easier. There are also plans to open a regional airport near Rouge National Park by 2027.
As a city that offers both a vibrant urban atmosphere and a quaint rural abundance, all with convenient access to Toronto and the cities of the Golden Horseshoe, Pickering is well worth checking out.
