Decorating your condo for the holidays

Want to make your small space a little more merry and bright this season? We talked to designer Stacey Cohen about her top tips for keeping things cozy and festive...without feeling cluttered.

Use small touches to make a big impact. People underestimate what small items can do, says Stacey. Even if your place is tiny, having a few ornaments in a bowl on your counter, lighting a few candles (flameless ones are good too), hanging up stockings or lighting a menorah all go a long way to making things feel festive.

Create comfort with cushions. Pick up a few cute pillows at Homesense, Indigo or Loblaws and scatter them around for a cozy feel that’s easy to switch up with different covers once the season has wrapped.

Think outside the tree. No room for a giant pine in your 600 square foot space? Pick up a small faux tree in a pot or grab one of those cute rosemary trees and decorate it with tiny ornaments (bonus: it’s decor you can eat later). Or forego the tree completely and set a winter mood with a garland along a tabletop or bookshelf.

Hang a wreath (or three). A pretty wreath made of holiday greenery doesn’t take up space, and it’s a great way to decorate doors, walls, mirrors and more.

Add texture. Whether it’s a chunky knitted blanket on the couch, a faux fur throw or your bed or a luxe velvet pillow perched perfectly in an accent chair, soft, luxurious textures all add a cozy feel that’s pretty perfect when it’s cold and snowy outside.

Play with lights. Tiny white lights make any space look festive and pretty - hang them on your balcony, on your windows or even decorate your ficus tree. Plus, they’re not specifically seasonal, so you can leave them up year-round!

Keep it simple. Less is more, especially when it comes to keeping your condo feeling comfortable. An uncluttered space will leave you feeling more relaxed and ready to enjoy all the great stuff this season has to offer.
